We’re kicking off 2024 with a couple special make-ups (SMU) in this Horween Brown Nut Cypress leather, available in the Boondocker Boot and Rockland Blucher, both sitting on a leather sole with dove-toe heels. Horween Brown Nut Cypress Boondocker Boot (2030E/EE)
We’ve taken a liking to the Boondocker Boot as a solid alternate to the standard Viberg Service Boot. The rows of triple and quadruple contrast stitching add a nice vintage detail, and this waxy pull-up leather combined with the higher stitch-per-inch (SPI) on the construction, makes this a dressier version of what is otherwise known as a rugged boot.

Horween’s Cypress leather is a newer leather from the Chicago tannery, and has a rich and bold characteristic to the leather. This Brown Nut Cypress leather has a beautiful brown surface that is finished with a wax to give it a nice luster and pull-up effect. The leather notably more grain and texture than compared to Chromexcel leathers. This leather has a decent thickness to it and a medium stiffness to it, which combined with the sturdy leather sole will require a little more break-in period than usual.
Sizing: These 2030 Boondocker Boots run similar to other 2030 Service Boots and Boondocker Boots. Our general recommendation is to take one size down from your Brannock size. If you already own a pair of well-fitting Viberg Service Boots and take a different size (such as 0.5 down from Brannock), then you’ll probably want to stick with that same size. Horween Brown Nut Cypress Rockland Blucher (2030E)
Our first foray into the Rockland Blucher, and we took the liberty to use the same Brown Nut Cypress leather and a leather outsole for a more refined make-up. The Rockland Blucher style cleans up well with the Brown Nut Cypress, and the 360 degree natural notched welt adds a nice refined detail to this casual pair. The Rockland Blucher, with its open lacing system, is supposed to be a less formal, more versatile version of a traditional oxford shoe. We find that it does indeed come off as more casual than a traditional oxford, and while it has some characteristics that remind us of our old favorite 145 Oxford, it does maintain that slightly more refined look through the French binding, blind eyelets, and the notched welt. It really does a nice job of allowing you to dress up or down in a low-cut shoe.
